FISCAL ANALYSIS
ASSUMPTION
Officials from the Department of Social Services, Office of Prosecution Services and the Office of the State Courts Administrator each assume the proposal would have no fiscal impact on their respective agencies.
Officials from the Office of the Attorney General (AGO) states that under the provisions of this proposal, the AGO would be required to review reciprocal arrangements to ensure that they meet statutory requirements each time Missouri receives a request for service from an outside jurisdiction. AGO assumes that it would need two Assistant Attorney General I’s and two Paralegal’s for the review process, which will include significant contacts with the requesting jurisdictions to obtain records, and conversations with relevant personnel to gather the necessary information to make each determination.
Oversight assumes, this proposal offers an additional option for determining when a foreign country or political subdivision has established a reciprocal arrangement for child support with this state. Oversight assumes the state will continue to use the current method of determination the majority of the time. Therefore, Oversight believes the AGO could absorb any additional caseload arising from this proposal with existing resources. If a fiscal impact were to result, the AGO may request additional funding through the appropriations process.
Officials from the St. Louis Family Court have not responded to Oversight’s request for fiscal information.
